Crossing Structure Wilhelmsburg, Hamburg

In Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg, Deutsche Bahn AG is planning a new crossing structure in form of an underpass. Currently, passenger trains and rapid transit trains from the line Hamburg-Hannover cross freight trains from Hamburg port. Changing tracks is only possible by switches which leads to capacity limits in this area. Via an underground crossing structure between Nordelb Bridge and Süderelb Bridge, freight trains will cross passenger trains grade-separated. The structure underpins the existing tracks at an acute angle and is correspondingly long. The current bottleneck will be eliminated, and additionally, residents will benefit from lower noise pollution. The challenge of this project is the construction at an acute angle in a highly frequented railway section and poor soil conditions.Caption:In Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg around Thielenstrasse, construction of a crossing structure in form of an underpass is planned.
