Motorway A45, Lennetal Viaduct
The Lenntal viaduct is located at the north-east city border of Hagen, north of motorway interchange Hagen. Due to its bad state, the viaduct, completed in 1967, had to be replaced with a new structure. The 14-span new viaduct consists of two separated composite superstructures with widths of 19 m each. The superstructures‘ cross sections are single-web, closed steel hollow boxes with diagonal struts on the sides and a shear-resistant concreted deck slab. The substructures are formed by reinforced concrete piles, which were built as external formwork by use of prefabricated concrete elements, as well as concrete abutments.
The western superstructure was constructed by incremental launching on temporary piles in lateral position, and, after demolition of the old viaduct, will be transversally launched into its final position. The eastern superstructure will be incrementally launched into the definitive alignment. The transversal launching of a superstructure of almost 1000 m is a first-time undertaking in Germany. A particular challenge will be that the superstructure is not launched parallel but with a launching angle of 70°.
