Site Visit Rader Viaduct

Hamburg colleagues visit large-scale construction site

One year ago, groundbreaking at Rader Viaduct took place. Since then, construction has been running in full swing. Last Wednesday, colleagues from our Hamburg offices visited the site and had a close look at the impressive dimensions of the large viaduct.

Rader viaduct is part of motorway A7 and crosses the Kiel Canal and lake Borgstedter Enge.Since its opening in 1972, the bridge has been playing a central role in connecting Germany to Denmark and Scandinavia and thus is highly frequented. An analysis revealed that the bridge could only be used until 2026. Renovation or reinforcement of the viaduct are unfeasible from an economic point of view, which is why it is currently replaced by a new structure. DEGES contracted SSF Ingenieure in joint venture with Schüssler Plan to implement preliminary and draft designs as well as approval design.
