Right in the heart of Berlin, in difficult ground conditions and confined space, in the framework of the gap closing project, three new stations have been connected to the existing line and 2.2 kilometres of tunnel were built. The new added structures connect the existing line U5 to line U55, forming the new overall U5. Due to the challenging conditions, technologically complex working methods were applied. Main goal always was to complete the construction at this central hub with the least possible hindrances to residents and traffic.
