Construction Progress at Elisabeth Bridge in Halle (Saale)

Mounting and assembly of steel girders completed

Elisabeth Bridge in Halle (Saale) is currently the city’s largest construction project. It is the most important link between old town and new city quarters for tramway, bicycle and pedestrian traffic. The Saale flood in 2023 severely damaged the bridge, which now has to be replaced by a new structure.

To reduce construction time as much as possible, the new bridge will be built by modular method. Construction works started in February this year. Now, a significant milestone is implemented – the steel girders were mounted and assembled. Assembly of the around 100-tonne-heavy steel girders was completed in three sections: at the beginning of the month, the side spans west and consecutively the east spans were assembled. This week, the gap will be closed and the middle sections assembled. This creates the conditions for the assembly of the prefabricated reinforced concrete components which will start in December this year.
