Road Bridge Wittekindstrasse

A new bridge of railway tracks

Road Wittekindstrasse in Oberhausen crosses over four electrified railway tracks and a switch installation of Deutsche Bahn. The old bridge from 1908 showed severe age-related damages and will be replaced by a new construction.

In March 2023, the project started with the dismantling of the old bridge as well as the demolition of the neighbouring steel plant. The new bridge is planned to be completed at the end of 2024/beginning of 2025, followed by required road and ramp constructions.

The new bridge is a 4-web T-beam made of prestressed concrete (prefabricated elements with cast in-situ concrete). With 10 metres of usable width, it is much wider than the old structure and also eliminates the prior load restrictions.

Currently, the frame struts (abutments) are built up to the bearings of the prefabricated elements. Due to the allocated close-off periods, the prefabricated elements will only be assembled in July, which is why the retaining walls are built first.
