Strelasund crossing
Connects the island of Rügen with the mainland
2.8
kilometres of bridge length
This includes six individual structures.
Elegant and well-proportioned
With the construction of the new A20 Lübeck–Szczecin Baltic Sea motorway, the approx. 55 km long “B96 Stralsund/Rügen” slip road to the largest German island of Rügen was built, thereby providing an efficient transport link to the island. At the same time, the city centre of Stralsund was relieved of through traffic from the existing B96 by means of a bypass.

- The second Strelasund crossing between Stralsund and Rügen was an essential part of this construction project. The main structure of the 2.8 km long bridge was realised as a cable-stayed bridge
- The bridge consists of six individual structures, which are connected to each other on the separating piers via carriageway crossings
Structure 2 spans the Ziegelgraben and is the defining part of the bridge. The two main openings are spanned by stay cables.
The defining structure is the 583 m long cable-stayed bridge with 46 m high piers and 87 m high pylons above: For the first time, stranded wire was installed instead of the usual fully closed spiral ropes.
