Ijssel Bridge
An engineering and architecturally inspiring railway bridge structure

926

This makes it a spectacular bridge.
Expansion of the railway network
- The IJssel bridge is part of the 50 km long new railway line from Zwolle to Lelystad. This line was called “Hanzelijn” at the time
- The bridge was completed at the end of 2010, and test operations began in 2011

Design and build competition
As the winning design of a design and build competition, the design and structural implementation of the Ijsselbrücke proves that an early and cooperative partnership between building contractor, architect, engineer, and construction company leads to ideal synergies and results in a railway bridge structure that is inspiring – both from an engineering and architectural point of view – in the flat Dutch landscape. Awards
- Nationale Staalprijs 2012, 1st place (Infrastructure category)
- Architecture Biennale São Paulo 2011, German contribution “Baukultur made in Germany”
