Elstertalbridge
A unique technical monument: Repair of the second-largest brick bridge in the world
2.500
tonnes of scaffolding material
More scaffolding material than ever before was used for the complete scaffolding of the bridge, which is currently the largest in Germany.
Historical challenge
- The structure from the middle of the 19th century is located in the Vogtland region on the railway line between Leipzig and Hof and crosses the Weiße Elster river
- The track supporting slabs made of reinforced concrete are being completely renewed, and the piers and vault are being repaired whilst taking into consideration aspects of monument protection
- In the course of the renovation, around 36,000 of the approx. 12 million bricks used will also be replaced in detailed work.
- A vault bridge of this size has never before been completely overhauled at DB AG, and it is the largest scaffolding erected to date
