The competition design for the new foot and cycle path bridge over the Friedrich meadows of the Danube in Ulm plans an 87.50-metre freely crossing bridge without piles in the water. An upper frame structure, built by steel trough method, of variable construction height guarantees the required stiffness and at the same time a slender appearance. The structure is fixed between the abutments and efficiently distributes forces into the foundations. The persistent reduction to a clear material and form choice creates a precise, sculptural bridge where load-bearing structure and design form a natural unity.
