SSF Ingenieure Award 2017

Eduard König receives this year’s award

In the framework of the graduation ceremony 2017 on July 7, 2017, SSF Ingenieure together with the Department of Civil, Geo and Environmental Engineering of the Technical University Munich has presented the SSF Ingenieure Award to Eduard König.

Eduard König receives the award for his Bachelor thesis “Joining of plane, areal structures in timber construction: possibilities and mechanical mechanism”, tutored by M. Sc. Peter Glaser, scientific assistant at the Chair of Timber Structures and Building Construction of university professor Stefan Winter.

The thesis aimed at providing an overview of joints between plane, areal structures in wood construction and to demonstrate precise mechanical mechanisms of selected joints. In this context, Mr. König analysed the load-bearing behaviour and stiffness of different joints of shell structures made of linear and areal wood components. By applying a parameter study, he showed the potential that can be reached by biaxial load distribution when selecting appropriate joints. Moreover, he highlighted that laminated timber boards can be connected nearly bending-stiff. Mr. König gave scientifically founded and practical recommendations for the implementation of joints in biaxially tensioned wood structures.”

Overall, this is a very accomplished Bachelor thesis which deserves the SSF Ingenieure Award 2017. We congratulate Mr. Eduard König to this award.

Information about the award:
The award is donated for excellent Bachelor theses at the Department of Civil, Geo and Environmental Engineering, treating subjects from the fields of concrete structures, timber construction and metal construction as well as applied methods from structural analysis and mechanics. The award money is €1,500.
