Topping-out ceremony in Berlin's underground

On 7 September 2016, Berlin's transport company Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe BVG celebrated an Open Construction Site Day to mark the completion of the building shell for the underground station at the Red City Hall.

The project "Closing the U5 gap" extends the U5 line from Alexanderplatz to Brandenburger Tor where it joins the U55, known as the "Chancellor underground". This particular section of line consists of 2.2 kilometres of tunnels, with three new stations being constructed in the centre of Berlin. The topping-out ceremony was held down on the future track bed, giving visitors a special opportunity to take a look at the city's underground.
