New Construction of Motorway Sibiu – Pitești in Romania

Major contract for our affiliate SSF-RO

Between the cities Sibiu and Pitesti in Central Romania, a new, 123-km long, motorway will be built. The highway construction crosses Romania from west to east and is divided in fife sections. The first section starts in Sibiu and end in Boita. This first section comprises in total 29 engineering structures, designed by our affiliate SSF-RO: 21 underpasses, one overpass and seven bridges with overall lengths of up to 640 km. Two bridges are currently under construction – amongst them one cantilever bridge.

SSF-RO is charged with final design of all 29 engineering structures. Some services will be carried out at our Munich offices.

Structure data bridge km 12+375:
Bridge length: 640 m
Bridge width: 30 m
Bridge area: 18748 m²

Span widths: 50 + 70 + 80 + 120 + 120 + 80 + 70 + 50 m

Particularities:
The structure is a semi-integral bridge with bending-stiff connections between the double-piers (axes 30, 40, 50) and the superstructure. Between axes 20 and 60, the superstructure is erected by cantilever method using in total four cantilever carriages. One carriage including scaffolding and formwork weighs in total around 105 tonnes. Eleven sections between 4.0 and 5.0 m long with in total 44 tension cords are planned for the cantilever structure. The twelfth section closes the gap. The foreland spans are built on a ground-based scaffolding.
