"Green Line Underground" in Doha Completed

Important milestone in a densely populated region

Successful completion: Construction works at the "Green Line Underground", one of three underground lines of the Metro Doha Project phase 1, are completed and the construction lot was handed over to the client in autumn 2019. The opening is scheduled at the 10th of December 2019.

The "Green Line" runs on a total of 18.70km. The project comprises a double-tube tunnel with six underground stations, two crossing structures and a track switching installation, a trough and six emergency exit shafts.

For the densely populated capital of Qatar, the metro is an important step towards more efficient urban mobility. The metro is built for the occasion of the football world cup 2022 in Qatar; the Green Line is part of the public transport network connecting the twelve newly erected stadiums with each other.

The construction was implemented as a design-and-build contract executed by the joint venture PSH comprising the companies Porr AG Austria, Saudi Binladen Group Saudi Arabia and the local construction company Hamad Bin Khalid Contracting Company (HBK). PSH charged SSF Ingenieure with overall architectural design, structural engineering and geotechnics for all structures in cut-and-cover method (stations, branch-offs, emergency exit shafts). The particularity of the project: architectural design and structural engineering were implemented with AutoDesk Revit, in accordance with the BIM implementation plan of Metro Doha, completely digital in 3D.
