Competition for pedestrian bridges won in Augsburg

The planning partnership of SSF Ingenieure GmbH and Lang Hugger Rampp GmbH has won the competition for the pedestrian bridges regarding the site development of the Impuls Arena in Augsburg.

The fans of the FC Augsburg football club are supposed to use these bridges from now on to get to the Impuls Arena on foot if they come by tram. The bridges are supposed to guarantee that up to 10,000 fans an hour can safely walk the 500-metre distance from the final stop of Line 3 to the stadium. These bridges are three slender, arch-shaped prestressed concrete frames, which fit organically into the routing system because of the curved shape of their ground plan.

According to the jury's assessment in context with the stadium, they form a conclusive overall concept with recognition value without developing extra-large dominance as bridge structures. With their compact asymmetric cross sections, the bridge structures are provided with an unmistakeable, dynamic character in connection with their momentum in the axis course. The costs of the three bridge structures including an additionally required bicycle underpass amount to 1.7 million Euro. These bridge structures are supposed to be already completed by the middle of next year in time for the opening of the stadium.
