Traffic Opening Bridge B2 – Wundtstrasse in Leipzig
11. November 2025
Renovation successfully completed
After more than one year of construction, traffic can once again roll freely over national road B2/Wundstrasse in Leipzig. The structure brings the highly frequented national road over Schleussiger Weg and is thus one of the most important links to motorways A38 and A72.
Due to numerous damages at the 43-year-old structure, a comprehensive renovation was required. Goal was to ensure long-term load-bearing capacity and durability of the bridge and to guarantee road safety on this central artery.
Between September 2024 and November 2025, the following measures were implemented:
- Insertion of new micro bored piles to distribute loads from the piles
- Erection of additional piles and cross bars for load distribution
- Renovation of the entire drainage system
- Renovation and corrosion protection of the existing transition structures
- Complete renovation of concrete including application of a surface protection system
- New construction of bridge sealing
- Assembly of new bridge caps
- Renewal of the deck structure
- Restoration of safety installations and railings
After the completed construction works, the bridge presents itself in a technologically and visually impeccable condition – ready for many more years in the Leipzig transportation network.
