SSF-RO Receives Design Contract for Railway Project in Romania
22. July 2026
Design of engineering structures for design & build project on a 32.6-kilometre line
SSF-RO has received the design contract for engineering structures in the context of an important railway infrastructure project in Romania. Since in the second semester 2025, PORR Constructi SRL Romania has been awarded the design & build contract for the modernisation of the railway line Craiova – Drobeta Turnu Severin – Caransebeș, the Timișoara-based company, a part of the SSF Group, will deliver the design of engineering structures.
The project comprises the modernisation of an around 32.6-kilometre-long section which is part of the “wider Orient/East-Med TEN-T Core Network Corridorals”. It encompasses the renovation of the existing line, the expansion to two tracks of the now single-tracked railway line as well as the new construction of two double-tracked lines. In total, 18 bridges and 54 culverts will be built along the line.
Contracted by PORR Constructi SRL Romania, SSF-RO will design all bridges, to be built by the SSF Ingenieure AG-designed steel composite modular methods VFT®, VFT-WiB®, VTR® and VTT®. Moreover, the team will produce approval and final design and support fabrication at the manufacturing facilities. This includes quality assurance of the prefabricated modules, planning of assembly and work processes as well as approval on site.
After completion, the railway line will be completely electrified and equipped with the most modern European rail traffic management system ERTMS level 2. This will create a modern and efficient railway connection on one of Europe’s most important transport corridors.
