Halle colleagues visit current construction progress at Saale viaduct near Salzmünde
Last week colleagues from our Halle branch had the opportunity to gain very unique insight into one of the current infrastructure projects in the region: the construction of motorway A143 – west bypass Halle, including the impressive Saale viaduct.
Even when working daily on plans, drawings and designs – seeing the dimensions of such a large project is always special.
The project Saale Viaduct near Salzmünde is part and the heart of the around 13-km-long gap closing project at motorway A143. The “double” ring road comprised of motorways A14, A38 and A143 will form the so-called “Central German loop” encircling the Halle-Leipzig region.
At the current section, from junction Halle Neustadt (federal road B80) until interchange Halle-North (A14), in total 17 structures are planned, structures BW 8 and 9 form the Saale viaduct Salzmünde and comprise amongst other:
- river and foreland bridge over river Saale (968 m),
- noise protection tunnel Salzmünde (210 m),
- noise protection enclosures and noise barriers,
- retaining walls, as well as
- road sign gantries on the bridge
Until today around 30,000 m³ of concrete, 3,500 t of reinforcement steel as well as 4,000 t of structural steel and over 6,000 m bored piles have been assembled.
