Visible progress at Central Station
At the heart of Munich, one of Germany’s largest infrastructure projects takes shape: At stop point Central Station of the 2nd main railway line significant construction progress occurred in the last few months. In the area of the central rise as well as the western extension, construction works are advancing as planned and create the basis for the coming critical construction phases.
At the central rise (ZA), excavation of the floor slab is currently in the last stages. Soon, the first section of the floor slab will be cast. It creates the foundation for further construction and represents a milestone towards completion of the structure. Until the end of this year, the floor slab will be entire completed.
Subsequently, the temporary stiffening level will be removed, paving the way for the next important step: In spring next year the first tunnel boring machine will enter the central rise. Its journey already starts in September at Donnersberger Brücke from where it will make its way metre by metre towards Central Station.
At the western extension, directly connected to the cross platform, construction also visible advances. The civil engineering works have already started in March with erection of the primary columns. In September, construction of the diaphragm walls will launch the next essential construction phase.
