Progress in the design/preferred variant selected

The design for the replacement of the pedestrian and cycle bridge in Berlin Pankow is fast advancing. After the preliminary design was completed in 2024, important decisions have now been made during the draft design phase. The design of the preferred variant, an arch bridge, is continued and the cable bridge at the west side is integrated into the new construction.

Schönfliesser Bridge in the city quarter Prenzlauer Berg crosses the regional and long-distance railway tracks of Berlin’s railway belt. The existing structure from 1964 replaced a road bridge damaged during the war.

The design of the new structure intends to separate pedestrians and cyclists on the highly frequented bridge, and to significantly widen the structure to ensure safety. The cables of the neighbouring cable bridge will be integrated into the structure and will not be visible to road users. SSF has been contracted by the Berlin Senate administration for project management.
