Railway Bridge Launching in Grimma
02. September 2025
Frame structure brought into final position by transversal launching
On 27 August 2025, the new frame structure for the railway bridge at Husarenstrasse was successfully launched and brough into its final position. The around 1,200-tonne-heavy structure was launched in the time span of four hours over a distance of 18 metres. As the location of its assembly and the final position are not parallel to each other, the bridge had to be launched diagonally at an angle of around 30 degrees. The launching system of Firma RöRo was used, meaning that the bridge was literally pushed. The date had been fixed for a long time in the construction schedule and could be executed on time.
The railway bridge Husarenstrasse, located in the town of Grimma, carries the railway line 6386 Borsdorf-Coswig. The more than 150-year-old arched bridge is a bottleneck for road traffic on Husarenstrasse. For that reason, DB InfraGo AG built a new bridge next to it with an underpass for road traffic. The old arched bridge will be renovated according to monument protection regulations and be used as underpass for pedestrians and cyclists.
