Railway Bridge Geltendorf

Two railway bridges on the line Munich-Buchloe are currently being renewed: In addition to the railway bridge over the forest road near Geltendorf, the bridge over Burgstallerstrasse near Untermühlenhausen will be replaced. Both structures are built next to the railway tracks and subsequently launched into their final position.

In the night from 29 to 30 August, the time had come: After demolition of the old bridge, the new railway bridge was launched into its position under the tracks. An important milestone for the replacement structure has been achieved.

The new structure was constructed next to the railway line as a reinforced concrete full frame with slanting wings. In the context of a variant solution, SSF optimised the launching system from three to two launching tracks, the construction pit by minimising the excavation as well as pit lining. The structure itself was also adapted through reduced wall and floor thicknesses and the elimination of short wings as well as improved wing length and geometry.

By prefabrication away from the tracks, the actual installation phase was reduced to a necessary close-off period. Due to constraints presented by the overhead cable poles close to the bridge, launching was implemented at an oblique angle of 115° to the tracks. The around 800-tonne-heavy structure was launched around 30 metres into its final position. Construction of the structure including the launching procedure was executed by company Assner.

The successful launching of railway bridge Geltendorf marks the completion of another important step towards the replacement of the two railway bridges. SSF thanks company Assner, DB InfraGo as well as all other participants for the good collaboration and successful project implementation.
