Integral beam bridge with innovative hybrid piles
The replacement of Rader viaduct is one of the most exiting infrastructure projects in Germany – and we are in the midst of it. In our newly published project folder, we give insight into the design of a German-wide unique structure: a semi-integral bridge system with a main span width of 224 metres and a total length of 1,500 metres.
The new Rader viaduct leads motorway A7 over the Kiel Canal, Rader Island and Borgstedter Lake – and will not only be larger but more future-oriented. One additional lane per direction, a new total width of 37.1 metres and the construction of two separate sub-structures make it possible to maintain traffic during the entire construction time.
The structure has to be replaced as the old bridge from 1972 only has a remaining lifespan until 2026. It is economically not reasonable to maintain the bridge, which is why a new, efficient structure is currently being built that guarantees long-term the most important transport connection to Denmark and Scandinavia.
