New Bridge over Motorway A3

Technology meets design
West of interchange Nuremberg, an old rural road bridge (structure 401b) has been replaced with a modern new structure. The new bridge not only stands out because of its innovative construction method with fixed steel troughs, but also because of its clear and elegant appearance.
The structure without piers featuring external steel boxes and a composite slab in between had been chosen as preferred variant – functionally sound and a positive look. The slender silhouette, filigree details and harmoniously rounded girder edges blend perfectly into the surroundings.
In 2004, the bridge has been opened for traffic. Recent images show the completed structure in all its clarity.
You find more information about the construction method in the post Innovations in Bridge Engineering.
