Milestone at the Replacement of Ringbahn Bridge

During several closures of the underpassing railway tracks, the steel structures of the new bridge were placed.
Last week, the replacement structure of Ringbahn Bridge, part of motorway A100 in Berlin, has achieved an important milestone. During several closures of the underpassing railway tracks, the steel structures of the new bridge were placed. A 650-tonne-heavy crawler crane transported the six up to 320-tonne-heavy steel segments precisely into their final position.
Since 2018, SSF Ingenieure has been contracted by DEGES as part of an engineering joint venture to completely redesign the motorway interchange Funkturm during the stages preliminary and draft design as well as preparation of tender documents. Our design services comprise in total seven bridges, eleven retaining walls, seven noise barriers as well as numerous temporary structures. As a prominent structure of this package, we are responsible for the design and call for tenders of the replacement structure of Rinbahn Bridge including the adjoining retaining walls and noise barriers.
After the unexpected total closure and the immediately following demolition of the old structure in March/April 2025, we worked under great time pressure and in a very dynamic project environment to produce in the shortest amount of time the tender documents for the replacement.
As a result of the tender process and to comply with the extremely short construction time, the replacement has been under construction since October 2025 with a modified superstructure shape and construction method.
We congratulate all project participants to successfully achieving this milestone of assembling the girders, and wish everyone good continuation towards the planned traffic opening in summer 2027.
At the same time, we continue to design and prepare the tenders for the other engineering structures in the context of the restructuring of interchange Funkturm and are happy to be a part of this infrastructure project of trans-regional importance.
