Important Milestone at the Restoration of Ahr Cycle Path

Another 8.5 kilometres completed: the Ahr cycle path is growing step by step
After the severe damages caused by the floods in 2021, progress at the restoration of the Ahr cycle path is growing significantly: The around 8.5-kilometre-long section between Walporzheim und Laach has officially been opened for cyclists.
In this section, we designed five pedestrian and cycle bridges next to the railway bridges as well as several retaining structures which were subsequently built by company Leonhard Weiss. The excellent collaboration with the state authority for mobility LBM allowed us to combine the high-level requirements in view of flood protection with a slender appearance that fits the region. The Ahr cycle path, which leads on around 80 kilometres from the source of the Ahr river to the Rhine delta, is now one step closer to its complete restoration.
More sections will follow in the coming months. The opening not only improves the region’s attractiveness for tourism but also creates safe and comfortable connections for locals in the Ahr valley.
