General Renovation Hacker Bridge

Hackerbrücke

State capital Munich has selected one of three proposed variants after the preliminary design phase

The general renovation of Hacker Bridge is advancing: after completion of the preliminary design, the state capital Munich has selected one of the three proposed variants.

With the selected variant, the bridge’s superstructure remains in its current position. This allows to close the 20 railway tracks underneath the bridge in sections – coordinated by switch groups – and minimises interference with rail operations.

An alternative variant planned to lift the superstructure by around 3 metres. This however would have required a complicated provisional support of overhead lines and massively influenced the overhead line system at the entrance to central station. The idea to generally lift he superstructure by around 50 metres was abandoned as a decoupling of the overhead line from the superstructure wasn’t feasible.
The chosen variant keeps the bridge unchanged in its position so that it continues its function as road bridge and “overhead line pole” simultaneously. We are looking forward to further advance the design of this exciting solution.
