Comprehensive signalling and track restoration on 370 kilometres
Since the end of 2023, SSF Ingenieure AG has been present with a branch in Cairo and working on the restoration of the around 125-km-long railway line from Cairo to Beni Suef. After comprehensive proposals for another large-scale project and intensive negotiations with ENR, the Egyptian state railway company, we are happy to announce that the joint venture comprising SSF Ingenieure AG, SSF International GmbH and the local partner EHAF Consulting has been awarded the contract for the Cairo-Alexandria Trade Logistics Development Project (CATLDP).
The large-scale project contains three lots with a total length of 370 km and encompasses comprehensive signal and track restoration works. Moreover, a new construction in lot 1 as well as a double-track upgrade in lot 2 are part of the project.
In detail:
- Lot 1 – Greenfield connection (70 km) and upgrade of the section Marazik–Wahat (67 km).
- Lot 2 – Upgrade of the section Bashteel–Itay El Baroud (117 km): double-track upgrade between Bashteel and El Itihad (construction of around 90 km new track) and restoration of the single-tracked section between El Itihad and Itay El Baroud.
- Lot 3 – Upgrade of the section El Itihad–Al Nahda (96 km): track upgrade and modernisation of signalling installations.
Our scope of services includes support during the tender award process as well as construction supervision of the turnkey contract for track upgrade and new construction as well as the modernisation of signalling installations. Construction time is set to four years. After completion, the CATLDP will significantly improve connectivity by linking the Mediterranean Sea with the entire ENR network and the 6th of October dry port – thus sustainably reinforcing Egypt’s trade and logistics infrastructure.
We say thank you to all participants for their support during the contract award and negotiations and wish the project team success, skill and the required patience to implement this challenging large contract.
