Construction Project in its Final Stretch

The first construction section of the “reactivation of Heidekraut rail” in the Berlin Pankow district is in its final stretch. In the coming years, the restoration of the railway line will expand regional transportation options. Commuters will benefit from shorter routes, improved transit options between suburban trains and regional transport as well as a reinforced railway connection between Berlin’s north and Brandenburg north of the city.

In the future, trains of Niederbarnimer Eisenbahn AG (NEB) will frequent the line. For this project, the construction management department at SSF Ingenieure AG Berlin signed responsible for construction monitoring. The services comprised construction management as well as on-site construction supervision in the areas of civil engineering, transport infrastructure, canal constructions and track installations. Moreover, our team was contracted for construction documentation and contract addendum management.

The project comprised the first structures at the beginning of the line. This included a new platform as future terminal, two platform access structures with barrier-free ramps and staircases, the new track installations including substructure and superstructure as well as the continuation of the asphalted Berlin Wall Trail for cyclists and walkers. The installation is completed by new drainage systems and retaining structures in the form of sheet pile walls with facing formwork.

The imminent completion of the construction creates the basis for an important infrastructure project: an efficient and future-oriented railway connection for the capital’s region.
