Bridge Construction at Ahr Valley

Marienthal Brückeneinschub

10. December 2024

Significant progress at construction of 9 railway bridges and 5 pedestrian and cycle bridges.

Reconstruction works after the flood catastrophe in the Ahr Valley are progressing rapidly. Around 1.5 years after planning began and around one year after construction start, in mid-November the 68-metre-long and around 420-tonne-heavy superstructure of railway bridge Marienthal II was launched over Ahr river – the first of nine railway bridges to be newly built.

The steel superstructure (steel trough with orthotropic slab) was constructed in accordance with our alternative offer, which reduced welding works on site. It was assembled at track axis next to the new structure and subsequently launched longitudinally into its final position.

Construction of the other bridges is fast advancing as well. The aim is to replace the structures as fast as possible – and all project partners are working with commitment and at full tilt. SSF Ingenieure has been contracted by Leonard Weiss to produce the final design. We are happy to be a part of this exciting project and thank all our partners for the constructive and expedient cooperation.
