Construction Site Visit: Expansion Föhringer Ring Road

SSF colleagues visit new construction of two bridges over river Isar and Isar Canal
This week as well as next week, SSF employees in Munich have the chance to visit the construction site of the new Herzog-Heinrich Bridge, south structure at Föhringer Ring Road. The bridge comprises two sub-structures, a bridge with prestressed concrete superstructure over river Isar and a VFT (prefabricated composite elements) bridge over Isar Canal. Our colleagues are accompanied and shown around the site by two coworkers, which are responsible for construction management and supervision at the project. Currently, reinforcement bars and tension cables are placed, afterward, in July the superstructure will be concreted.
The southern sub-structure of Herzog-Heinrich Bridge is part of the expansion of Föhringer Ring Road, one of Munich’s main east-west links. The carriageway will be expanded from two to four lanes and in that context traffic management will be optimised. This expansion requires two new bridges (sub-structures) over river Isar and Isar Canal. Firstly, the existing Herzog-Heinrich bridge will be replaced by a new structure and subsequently a new bridge, the south sub-structure, will be built. Construction of the new Isar bridge south is currently ongoing, and the replacement structure will be completed in the following years. Moreover, construction of four more bridges and two noise barriers is required.
Since 2018, SSF Ingenieure has been responsible for project management and supports the construction authority Freising during production of the draft and approval design as well as the tendering process of the construction lots. Together with SSF Ingenieure, Wagner Ingeineure and Baugeologisches Büro Bauer, both members of the SSF Group, participate at the project: Wagner Ingenieure has been contracted for draft and approval design of traffic installations as well as partial production of the tender documents, and Baugeologisches Büro Bauer for soil investigations and the geotechnical reports.
